Just keep thinking that if your OH doesn't go into respite now a crisis may happen where there is no choice. You really need this break Pam.

Hi pamann, I would think someone from the CH could come and collect him, or arrange transport. When Robert first went into Respite I didn't visit as I thought it would upset him. Hopefully the doors being locked won't be apparent to him so he won't notice. I am sure he will be well looked after and you can definitely have some ME well deserved time for yourself to recharge the batteries. Hope you have read Scarlett's thread about being Guilty. I know we all feel it, but do try and relax during your 2 weeks. I was very scared, but it is for the best, otherwise you cannot carry on looking after him. Thinking of you and send a big hug xx

Hi my mother is going into restbite in a few days 11days actually ! Only for a week ! My brother will pop and see her at the care home every day ! I'm off on holiday for a week ! I've looked after mother for 2yrs now ! I'm 63and work 4hrs every morning also ! So I am well ready for me time ! We took her for a hour for a cuppa there and the carers was lovely so I'm sure she will be fine ! The food looked good also ! In fact I thought to myself I could do with a week there ! Lol, so please go and enjoy yourself everything will be fine ! X

Hello LynT l have left it to long to get help, trying to manage on my own, althought we have tried day care, they refused to have him back, as he tried to get out of locked doors, climbed over 6ft fence in the garden, he refused to go out with carer's from crossroads, so l have tried with help, but because my hubby is so bodily fit, never had any illnesses, its just AD, the CH may refuse to have him, 4 homes that had a room refused to take him. fingers crossed they will be able to manage him.

If it's a specialist dementia home, Pam, they should be able to cope. There's a resident in Fred's CH who I thought was a member of staff for a while until suddenly realised otherwise when talking to him one day!

Thank you esmeralda, not looking forward to tomorrow, but it has to be done, for hubbys sake and mine.

Hello everyone this morning went well, hubby was so pleased to see so many people, he thought he was in London, only took me 10mins to get to the CH, so lucky to have one so near. Hope he settles there it will be a better life for him, they do lots of activities to keep them occupied. ☺

So pleased to read this pamann. Its going to seem strange but hopefully you will feel reassured enough to be able to get the benefit of these two weeks and rest and de-stress a little. Take care, hugs xx

Very well done Pam, you are a brave and lovely person - yes you are (before you argue).
Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Thank you everyone for your loving support, l did ring the CH at 6pm, just to see how he was, l told them this morning don't just tell me is ok, l want to know how he really is, he did not eat any dinner, this afternoon he ate a sandwich and cake, so he was getting hungary. He was very agitated at 4pm, wanted to go home, they gave him a travel sickness pill, it calmed him down. Hope they managed to get him to bed, as he wanders all night at home, so pleased they are giving me a rest.☺

Pam go to bed and sleep , rest . You are not in control tonight . There's no point him going in for respite if you are going to worry (easy said me I know, I know) , they will cope ... You need to cope for you , I'm now saying this to my mum x
