This morning I baked for Dhiren`s party tomorrow at the home. Two cheesecakes and a Victoria sponge.
I`m out of practice.
It took me ages just to prepare the tins. Then I had to use two mixing bowls because the volume was too great for one bowl.
I poured the mixture on to the biscuit base and then realized I`d forgotten the cornflour.
It wouldn`t set without the magic desertspoon of cornflour.
I couldn`t add it to the mixture in the tin, it needed beating in well.
I decided to pour the cheese mixture out of the tin and back into the bowl.
I tilted the tin very carefully and the cheese mixture began to pour slowly. I tilted a little more to speed it up, then disaster. All the cheese mixture and biscuit base fell back into the bowl. Plop!
I tried to seperate it. It was hopeless. I couldn`t throw it away, it was too good to waste.
I thought about eating it. It was too much even for me.
So I got a clean tin, greased and lined it, mixed all the biscuits and cheese together, and put it in the oven to bake.
It looked fine. I now have to wait till tomorrow to see how it turns out of the tin and how it tastes. It`s now in the fridge. I hope it`s setting.
I tidied up, was shattered , but had to visit Dhiren.
It was a good visit .
Another lovely greeting.
D ` What have you been doing?`
S `I`ve been baking for your birthday.`
D `When is my birthday?`
S `Tomorrow.`
D `I`m bored here.`
S ` What would you like to do?`
D `I want to go home.`
S `You`d be bored at home.`
D `I suppose so.`
I had made the yoghurt drink he used to like and taken it in a flask.
He didn`t like it.
D `I want to go to the toilet.`
S ` I`ll get help.`
D `I don`t need help. I can go by himself.`
S `All right, off you go.`
He struggled to stand but was unable.
S `You need help.`
D `I can go myself. Just you watch me.`
And he struggled again.
S `Let me get help.`
D `You help me.`
So I tried to help him up, without taking too much weight. It was impossible.
Again I asked him to let me get help.
He heard a man`s voice.
D `He can help me.`
S `He is a visitor.`
It seemed he didn`t want female help.
The visitor greeted me. He was the husband of a resident.
Dhiren objected. He started pulling faces and muttering.
The visitor went to find his wife.
I asked a carer to help him to the toilet.
They brought the hoist in and took him.
When they brought him back he was grinning.
He obviously felt relieved.
He enjoyed his chocolate and some apple juice.
While he was out of the room I noticed a new pin board.
It was an activity timetable.
The activities included Nail Care, Hairdresser, Foot Spa, Bingo, Exercises, Films, Life History.
I was impressed.
It was time for me to go.
S `I have to go now.`
D `I`ll come with you.`
S `You can`t. I`ve still a lot of baking to do for your birthday tomorrow.`
D `You can do the baking and I`ll sit and talk to you.`
S `I`ll tell you what. I`ll go and do the baking and come back for you.`
D `Get going then.`
