Ibuprofen has taken the edge off somewhat thank goodness. Throbbing from just above knee to mid-hip now with heat centralised but no obvious evidence of injury so must be a muscle acting up for definite. Fingers crossed it doesn't worsen, I hate being crocked 😡

What do you enjoy @GillP ? I love to read but am quite fussy so appreciate hearing what others like.
Im not into the sci fi / horror or trashy stuff.
But I do get that end of book anxiety - what am I going to read next??? 🙈🙈 it’s harder as a carer as less time to reserach and browse the library, bookshops etc
I would say that I have broad tastes and try to alternate genres or follow an author through a series. I enjoy, fiction, biography/ autobiography - recent favourite - Michele Obama’s Becoming. Classics I’ve enjoyed Austen, Bronte, Hardy, also in translation Tolstoy, Zola. Modern fiction I enjoyed Elena Ferrante, Margaret Forster, William Boyd, Anne Tyler, Ian McEwan, Margaret Atwood, CJ Sansom, Rohinton Mistry, Robert Harris, Pat Barker, Sebastian Faulks, Hilary Mantel, Rachel Joyce. Don’t like horror but enjoy a thriller and crime novels. Re read I Capture the Castle, written for children, by Dodie Smith and enjoyed that.

I am beginning to enjoy reading again. Whilst caring for my late husband I lacked the focus to enable me to follow the threads in a book. So I read very little. I do not exaggerate when I say that at one point it took me a year to finish a novel! Previously I was a member of the village Book Club and hope to rejoin that. A group of interesting people with varied tastes so it meant that I encountered books I would not normally choose.

My husband didn’t enjoy fiction so I may dip into some of his books, lots of Anthony Beever , history and others although I don’t see me managing Stephen Hawking or Richard Dawkins! Vivid memories of him reading The God Delusion on a sun lounger, by the pool, in the South of France!

I often use Amazon as a resource for searching, also newspaper reviews and the website Good Reads. The BBC has excellent resources for researching books as well as interesting programmes, Book Club, Between the Covers and lots more.

Anyone looking for a fun alternate to the coronation today take a look at South Park: season 26 episode 02. Watching this as part of mum's morning routine and was pleasantly surprised, you will not be disappointed. Trust me on this peeps :)

Well mum was on my case to go out today late yesterday evening... I replied that bar a world ending event not a problem. Today? Obviously the coronation! After suffering through it for many hours and still doing so, I am awaiting the inevitable 'I don't go out' 'I don't do anything' later on 🤐 I will accept the blame with a taut smile however. Oops I forgot to record the ceremony but plenty of opportunity to rewatch highlights for next several weeks 😇

Private Eye have summed up today's occasion in one headline: Man in Hat sits on Chair.

😂😂😂 So very true, so very apt! Just wish I could escape the coverage, multiple channels and radio too. Recycled garbage, apologies to Royal watchers but it is what it is: Man in hat sits on chair.

We watched the procession to the Abbey, 20 mins into the service, mum wanted to go out.

"But you'll miss the coronation"
"That's not until tomorrow"
"You're watching it now"

Then I remembered - never argue with a PWD.
Supermarket was very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime.

Such is life @Neveradullday! I learnt that very important lesson during the first eighteen months, I'm slightly thick headed hence the extended length of time waiting for it to sink in haha. Ah the joys of shopping, at least it was empty - cruise control 🛒

Two lightly seasoned portions of cod with cauliflower for mum this evening :) I mean her appetite has just been massive this past four weeks... she was always a good eater but I honestly don't know where it goes!! Since we adjusted her diet in the New Year her face looks a little bit thinner (a good thing) and I should add she was always slight of figure to begin with only gaining some pounds the last three or four years. A big plus only two vaso-vagal events since January, the frequency of such episodes dropping off considerably. Hindsight's a wonderful thing I suppose, it was only after the trauma of mum's last hospital stay and supposed 'care' that made us act so promptly. Apologies if I'm recycling old news haha, bit reflective this evening for some reason 🤔

Well we managed to miss the whole occasion as mum woke up with high temperature so spent the am being assessed by paramedics. The senior wanted to take her in for bloods but knowing what would happen and the trauma of her last hospital stay i signed the form and kept her home. She’s picked up throughout the day and with a bit of pushing have hospital at home coming tomorrow to take the bloods.
the root cause may well be her rare autoimmune disorder which paramedics hadn’t heard of. It’s a bit against my general principles but I think we may try a private consultation,,,
Ive sent my sibling raising across the county to try to get the required antibiotics 🙈🙈

Oh my, both in my thoughts @sdmhred and I think you've made the right decision as you know her better than anyone. If you had attended it would have been very difficult to get her discharged if they decided to keep your mum in. Principles go out the window in these situations, I would do exactly the same thing in your position. Fingers crossed you get a swift resolution.

And trust me you didn't miss much but then I'm biased ;)

Hi @sdmhred
After the experience my mum had in hospital (end of 2020), I wouldn't like her to go back - she wasn't treated very well.
I've just done a Google search for 'hospital at home' and that looks promising for PWD.

Last week my mum had an outpatient appointment (first one since covid - had been by telephone for past two yrs) with endocrine nurse. It would have been a quick in and out job, I tried to gently persuade her but she wasn't having it. Anyway, the specialist nurse was very understanding, and we've gone back to phone appointments again, with blood tests at her GP surgery.

I hope your mum's feeling well soon.
