. He has reverted to being such a lovely gentle man, something I honestly would never have believed could happen. So for all of my fellow TPers with loved ones in care, please take heart from my posts. Hopefully they too can reach the same level of contentment as Fred, .

I`m so pleased for you Verity. I experienced exactly the same when my husband went into residential care.

I took him a teddy and he was delighted. Sadly he forgot about it as it fell to the side of the chair.

Lovely to hear Verity. Have to echo your sentiments about the change in Fred too - William also changed as his dementia progressed, and once it wasn't me trying to do his personal care he again relaxed around me, and I became his favourite person, and the one he knows and loves again.

I had quite a shock this morning as my lovely gentleman of recent months had turned into a grumpy, aggressive person. Not just with me but with his favourite carer too. He was OK with one of his male friends who had accompanied me but seemed to have a thing against females. Needless to say, baby was excluded from his nastiness! Hopefully this is just a bad day and he will be fine again on my next visit. Seems to be losing weight again despite having a good appetite. No complaints though. He is still with me. xxx

Verity, I'm sorry that Fred wasn't his normal self. I hope a urine test has been done to check for infection. Perhaps the staff should call for the GP? Are his bowel movements ok and chest clear? Pete's behaviour always used to go downhill when he had an infection but perhaps Fred is just having an off day. I hope he has his usual smile on his face the next time you visit.

Fred was at the door today when they opened it for me. He was helping the cleaner push his trolley. "Oh", he said loudly, "here's my wife". Big smiles all round. "I'll be back" he said to the cleaner and walked me off to his lounge for coffee. Such a relief after Monday. So grateful for another lovely visit.
