Dear Sylvia, I think this is amazing and it is something that is personal to YOU. I have no doubt that you will make a huge success of it. What a lovely thing to do. X

Thanks folks. :)

I`m not posting for praise, I just want to share with those in a similar situation how opportunities can present themselves in the most unexpected quarters.

Sylvia I am past the three year mark now since Ray passed away and sincerely looking to make some changes in what I do. Initially I just did more of the same, kept with the same groups, did more in the church etc. Now I think it is time to leave some of those activities behind and look for other groups who as you say need some younger people assisting. Also to groups who are closer to my current interests.

I think it is part of moving on and thinking of ourselves as building a new life. And you saw an opportunity and were prepared to step up, good for you.

Sue.

Sylvia, by posting you are giving so many of us hope that we will find a little niche for ourselves. Well done for having an open mind that helps you recognise the opportunities that can come along.

Love,

I'm just wondering if you've started this yet or is it too soon in the new year, Sylvia?
I hope it goes really well and wish you the very best for the new year. x

Thank you Saffie.

The club has been closed over the holidays so I haven`t started anything yet. Next week we are all out for a post Christmas Lunch and then there will be a fortnightly meeting. I will start small by being the tea lady , for which they are grateful and as they get to know me they will see how much more I have to offer.

The programme for the coming weeks includes competitions for sandwich making and gingerbread men , a talk about Uncle Mac and a visit to the RNLI .

Jeany I doubt I will make much difference to the lives of other people, I think it more likely they will make a difference to mine. :)

Our local Community Support Partnership staffed by Volunteers is running a series of events. We went this afternoon to a talk on Holistic Therapy and Relaxation.

It was a pleasant afternoon and good to see everyone chatting and socialising before and after the talk.

I think that it's good to try new things, and if they don't work out, at least you've given it a go. The "Ladies Group", which I attended once, not only didn't make me feel welcome, but then discussed a book they'd read (nobody had mentioned they had a reading group), about someone with Alzheimer's!

And yes, I'd explained my position to the group leader both on the phone, and in an email. The Bereavement Group wasn't for me either, but then I enjoyed my stint with the Citizen's Advice Bureau, love my Community Choir, am starting another next week, and am so pleased I can strum a few basic ukulele chords.

Good for you for starting something new, and I'm sure your input will be much appreciated. :)

Helen came yesterday for a short visit.

We decided to brave the elements this morning, even though it was quite windy. The sea was rough and exciting . We walked along the lower promenade listening to the waves of the incoming tide crash against the sea walls.

Oh that was nice!
