The transition to withdrawal

My grandmother has dementia, and after two separate falls, a broken hip and back. She now hasn't eaten more than a couple bites per day for 5 weeks, and is having issues swallowing.

But she is very alert and almost energetic, although bedridden. From everything I have read, at some point she will begin to sleep more and become withdrawn.

Is this a gradual process or is it an overnight change? Every day I go see her and don't know what to expect.

Thanks everyone

..... I felt this right until Mum's last day.
No two paths to the end are the same. We might all see similar things, but perhaps in a different timeframe. Where some may stop eating altogether others, like my late Mum, kept eating until 24 hours before she died. OK it was mostly liquid soup or soft eggs , but she ate and drank. She was not in pain, but the drugs were there if needed. All I can suggest is go in with a smile, laugh and talk with Gran, you will know the change when it happens, but there is no template. ..... and thank you for being a caring Grandchild.x
