Hello all

My mum was diagnosed with Dementia about 7 years ago and since March 23 being a resident in a care home privately funding.

I've had an uphill battle since then trying to get a CHC checklist and after months finally had a full assessment completed in Feb. However, the recommendation was not to approve funding despite minimal mobility, unable to communicate etc and scoring quite high on the DST report.

Coincidentally, her remaining funds dropped to what I understood was the limit for social services part funding, and I've just had approval that she meets the requirements.

However the funds paying for care upto now is from a shared account with my Dad, and I now understand that halves the level taken into consideration, which means we could have been claiming sooner.

Does anyone know if you can retrospectively reclaim the over paid private contribution from social services?

Thanks
