Hi

My name is Margaret just joined today. My mam diagnosed with Dementia last year but she has gone very aggressive with family members especially my son who lives with her and my father. Wondering what support is out there for this any info really appreciated. She constantly picking on family members day in day out and no one can do anything right. My son seems very anxious and stressed. He is 19 yrs old and a model son and grandson and father agrees with him with regards to my mam being wrong. Life seems so difficult for my son at present as well as my father but my father and my brother don't seem to be to do anything about the situation and seem to be burying their heads in the sand so to speak. I am looking for assistance in what to do regarding helping him cope as I don't want him to suffer in silence.

Regards

Margaret:)

Welcome to TP Margie. You really need to have a word with your GP about this as they will be able to prescribe some medication for her. Afraid this is normally part and parcel of dementia, most people seem to change personality somewhat and can get nasty and aggressive with their nearest and dearest. I'm sure others will be along soon with other suggestions. Take care, Sue

Hi Margaret and welcome to TP :)

It sounds as though your son is doing a great job. Does he get a break, I wonder? Has he done a carers assessment? He might find some support through your local carer service....try looking here http://www.carers.org/ or here http://www.youngcarers.net/ for information, or ring the Adult Services Team in your local council.

Also, there was a thread on here about communication with people with dementia. I don't know whether you would find it helpful but here's the link in case:

Wishing you and yours all the best. Keep posting :)
