Hello everyone.
My father just recently got diagnosed with vascular dementia (72 years old). My mother and I have been noticing small changes in his behavior and his decline over the past year and half or so. We finally pushed him enough to get an MRI during the fall and finally was able to see a specialist two weeks ago. This is gonna be tough since the only child (40 years old) and live about an hour and half away from my parents. I'm glad I found this site because there's going to be a lot of hardships and questions in the future.

I would say my father is in the middles stages of dementia ( balance is off, memory issues, problem solving issues etc.) When should I start setting up a camera in the house? ASAP? Due to their financial situation my mother still works and my dad is pretty self sufficient for by himself (for now). He's as stubborn as they come and probably wont like the idea. I'm dreading the day we have to take licenses, credit card etc.

Welcome to the forum @aaedward

I’m sorry to here about your father but glad that you’ve found us.

If your parents (or your mother at least) are in agreement a camera in the house is a probably good idea. I know it’s worked well for other members. I’m sure you’ll know when the time is right.

Meanwhile this forum is one of the best places to get support and information while caring for some one with dementia. I don’t think I’d have managed without it!
