Is there any point in getting the SS involved if MIL is self funding? Mind you I must say I am not sure the ones having POA will want to sell her place to fund it! So if that is the case should I get the SS involved if and when we decide to go ahead with CH

You don't have to involve the SS, although at least one care home I visited wanted my mum to be referred to them by either the SS or her GP. It wasn't the right place for her so I didn't explore the reasons, but I suspect it might be something to do with deprivation of liberty. When care home residents express a wish to leave (and won't be distracted) I suppose the staff have to know what their rights are in 'detaining' them. But I might be wrong!
