How does loss effect a partner with dementia?

My father has just lost my Mum after 65 years together, she passed from dementia & pneumonia. Dad also has dementia but cared for Mum along with help from carers. Dad is strangely calm and composed most of the time, however he's on a very short fuse and when an "episode" is triggered it reminds me of the time he had delerium after a seizure.

I guess I have 2 questions. Does having dementia make it easier to cope with the loss of one's partner? Can such a loss accelerate Dad's dementia? thank you.

Most people with dementia are calm after losing a loved one because they have forgotten that they have died.
If this is what is happening to your dad, dont keep reminding him as each time he hears about her having died will be like the very first time he has been told.
