Husband permanent care (since Feb 2023) with dementia. Didn't know way round financial affairs and social service applied for and got appointeeship, and then informed me they had applied for deputyship. They have control of my husband's deferred state pension - am very worried as his private pension goes into our joint account - will they be able to take control of this even though it is a 40 year old joint account.

Hello @Doodlepoodle

Any joint accounts are considered to be half of the amount his and half of it yours. They wont be able to take control of the joint account entirely as half of it will be yours, but I expect that what the deputy will do is open a new account on behalf of your husband that the deputy will have control over, transfer half of the money into it, change the pensions and benefits to go into the new account and then remove your husbands name from the joint account.

Have you applied to have half of your husbands private pension "gifted" to you?
