Mum was diagnosed 11 years ago and my husband and I cared for her on our own for a lot of the time. For the last two years Adult Services gave us 30 minutes, 3 times a day to supervise meals. Last September mum flooded her bungalow and she went into respite care. We realised how much better she was in care and how much our stress levels had reduced. Mum is now a permanent resident in a brilliant care home which specialises in dementia care. She is really happy and I can be her daughter again. Talking Point has been such a supportive place for me. I have asked questions, offloaded and shared experiences. Many thanks to Granny, Izzy, Celia, Rob etc xxxx

@jknight , it’s good to hear your mum has settled well ( even though you had to go through a flooded bungalow first!) I’m also glad that you are able to be a daughter again.

@jknight I am glad that your mum has settled in well at her care home and that you can be a daughter again instead of a carer, 11 years is a long time to be caring.

Thank you for all the help you gave me when dad was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, you were very kind and replied to all my messages. Dad lived another two years very happily before he died in 2020 xx

I’m so glad that your mum has settled @jknight and that you’ve found this forum so supportive. I hope you keep posting here. Your experience will be of value to others and of course you’ll continue to get support for yourself.
