Going on alone

Just had my yearly review with the melanoma specialist. As usual I was told what was in the PET scan report and mostly it was good news. The exception was the thyroid condition which basically is deteriorating faster than expected. I am having the operation in three weeks time so will know after that if it is cancerous or not. The outcome could be more treatment, radiation etc. Hopefully I can get through that as I have in the past three years with the other operations. Sometimes wonder if it does make you stronger or just more tired.
((((Hugs))))

Just back from my cruise to New Zealand. I had a great time. The ship's Captain got us into all six ports despite some rough weather. My thyroid operation is scheduled for next Monday. Fingers crossed there will not be too many complications with the recovery.

I did have the operation to remove half my thyroid last Monday. I came home Tuesday morning and self isolated. I was able to drive to a small local supermarket and restock some of my supplies yesterday but of course not toilet paper. What a farce! But life goes on and I will retrieve the wartime spirit of my ancestors and "soldier on" as I am sure you are all doing. This virus is just a glitch in the system and hopefully teaches us to be more self-reliant. Went back to fritters for breakfast to save on bread. Plenty of the staples in my cupboards so if I had a couple of hens life would be perfect. Hope we all come through this stronger than ever.

Isolation is a bugbear for everyone, I am no exception. We were allowed two adult visitors plus children on Mother's Day so my daughter Shirley split the family, her husband and son to Nanna four hours drive away, her and Naomi to me. It was lovely to have them here. I am still only going shopping once a week. No sense in taking chances. I am running out of things to do so looking forward to an easing of restrictions. Autumn!m is colder now so signs of winter ahead. I miss the long warm days. I will survive this, we all will. Just hope it doesn't go on much longer.

Thanks Cat. I am hoping all four of them can come down for my birthday in June. Restrictions are going to be gradually eased but when we will be back to coffee with friends in a shopping centre is yet to be stated. But we are all in this together as we keep being told so I hope the
Rich and Famous are suffering the way we are. Lol.

My birthday passed very quietly, no visitors, some phone calls, emails and a couple of cards. However Trevor's present arrived on the day, a tablet cushion which I am using now , very convenient. He posted a card separately and it arrived on the day too. Our Covid-19 restrictions are gradually being lifted so I had a funeral to go to exit week, a meet up in a park and another in a cafe, just four of us. I still feel it is too soon but the experts seem to think we are safe to go out now.

Hi there @sunray. I had a lockdown birthday in May - very odd. Your tablet cushion sounds like a good idea!

I hope to be going out for a socially distanced walk with a friend this morning.

Take care
Izzy

Izzy I am thinking of declaring the 4th of some future month my birthday so I can still have the birthday lunch. I'll have my younger son here first week in July so will give his daughter Alice the lunch and cake she missed out on the 6th of June when she turned eight. I'm sure she will be happy with that.

Over a month since I've posted on this thread. What has been happening? A visit from my friend I visit in Armidale, a week with my son and granddaughter here for the first week of her school holidays. Both visits limited by what is available in a semi lockdown situation. Like most people I wish that this was over but I am a realist and with second wave cases appearing in Victoria and New South Wales I don't have confidence it will end any time soon.

So it is back to keeping busy, letting time pass. Today it is stormy with gusting winds and a cold, damp atmosphere, a great day for doing nothing while rugged up in a doona. Not my scene usually. But a widow must do what a widow must do. Enjoy your northern summer. Remember to practice social distancing, wash your hands, stay away from people who are coughing etc. It is boring but I want you all safe. And I will try to do the same.

Nothing new to report. With Covid so little is open so apart from shopping and gardening and an occasional phone call life is pretty empty. But I do not want to get too used to this peaceful life as one day we will go back to some kind of normal. September should provide longer days and warmer days but the way things have been going _ what else? I think a lot of older people are afraid to think of the future at all. I am just looking forward to seeing the garden blooming again. And the funeral season over.
