Dear Sylvia

confusion causing him to believe Obama was going to rule the world, including India.

Are you sure Dhiren was being delusional:D I am sure that there are many people out there in the big wide world that believe the same thing:D

Glad you have had a better day -I am exhausted but am looking forward to the monthly meeting of the carers support group tomorrow.

Love

Hi Syliva

Just catching up and I am sorry to hear that Dhiren has not been well.

I know nothing about diabetes, but it does seem linked in some way with these episodes that Dhiren has. I'm glad you've had a better day.

No results of the sample yet? I presume they are growing cultures? Or just being slow...:(

Sylvia,
It does seem that Dhiren's blood sugar levels affect his behaviour. I have heard that uncontrolled diabetes can cause dementia-like symptoms so maybe just having elevated blood sugars exacerbates his behaviour and mood.

I think increasing the medication is a good idea. The problem with diabetes medication is that it needs to be constantly monitored. The body will naturally increase or decrease insulin as needed. Pills or injected insulin can't possibly do as good a job so we must constantly be on guard.

Here's wishing you a peaceful weekend.

Love,

I cannot understand that statement.

I can understand that uncontrolled diabetes can lead to dementia

http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?categoryID=200171&documentID=161

As saying that its like saying , diabetes can mimic dementia, like saying thyroids problem can cause dementia like symptoms.

But you would never factual say that thyroids problem can lead to dementia.

So why say uncontrolled diabetes can cause dementia-like symptoms?

I know unless a brain scan is done no one can tell if there any damage done, because of uncontrolled diabetes.

That why its best to have a brain scan , if a person with uncontrolled diabetes is showing symptoms of dementia.

Seem to me , there not enough awareness. not even in the mental health team . but Doctor in UK seem to know, but are not to forward in offering a brain scan Or bring awareness to it . but things do seem to be moving forward.

That why in the past your most likely get referral's to see a psychiatrist saying that a person showing signs of a mental illness, rather then seeing Specialist dementia memory nurse.

Maggie,
When people exhibit various symptoms of dementia, one of the things they check for is untreated diabetes. There are quite a few diseases that can cause a person to exhibit behaviours such as mood swings, anger, confusion etc etc.

A person can have these behaviours and yet not suffer from dementia but from diabetes, thryoid or whatever. That's what I mean about untreated or uncontrolled diabetes causing symptoms which seem to be dementia-related.

Of course, with diabetes there's usually high blood pressure leading to TIAs. So many things to worry about.

I see your point, please don’t take this personally :)

Just that part seem part was real symptoms of dementia in my mother, so it did not get diagnosed until the damage to my mother brain was done .

There are quite a few diseases that can cause a person to exhibit behaviours such as mood swings, anger, confusion etc etc.

Only other diseases I would of thought that could resemble symptoms of dementia is schizophrenia or a brain tumour,

Any way I better not stop going on about this, before i do every one head in

How all going OK with you both Sylvia ?

Dear Margarita

How all going OK with you both Sylvia ?

All is well for now thanks Maggie. We had a good visit from the CPN yesterday and although I don`t think Dhiren understood who he was, he was welcomed and we all enjoyed a chat for almost an hour.

I haven`t received the test results yet but have kept up the increased Gliclazide for diabetes. Whether it`s that which has reduced Dhiren`s confusion and anxiety or something else, I couldn`t say but he is calmer and less anxious.

He still has the delusions about his family`s role in the moon mission but it`s manageable.:)

He seems to be having delusions of grandeur. Last night he woke up expecting visits from Peter Mandleson and the Lord Mayor of London.
I can usually relate our dreams to something that has happened during the day but these dreams come right out of the blue.

Dear Silvia
I thought that. With Ron's dreams.
I take the key words, and relate them to his day.
Today it was dog's.
A few days ago we were watching something about dogs, I had been bitten by two dogs, so we discussed it.
The Queen had left her dogs with us today.:)
But apart from that, had a good day.

 Sylvia! Were they business calls or social? Was Dhiren pleased at the prospect? Could it be the mustard you mentioned? I always attribute vivid dreams to unusual food I've consumed, but I've never managed to conjure up PM or the LM of L. I think Derek Nimmo appeared once after a dish of winkles. ;)

Dear Deborah abd Hazel

I think these delusions are to do with intimidation, and Dhiren`s low self esteem . When he was trialing Aricept and Reminyl he dreamt Princess Anne and Prince Charles came with `big booming voices` and he was terrified.

It`s quite sad really. A cause for anxiety.

Totally unlike his family`s connections with the moon mission. ;)

Dear Sylvia

I am just catching up and when I read through your thread I came across
He seems to be having delusions of grandeur. Last night he woke up expecting visits from Peter Mandleson and the Lord Mayor of London.
I can usually relate our dreams to something that has happened during the day but these dreams come right out of the blue.

I wondered whether it could be to do with Dhiren feeling like he is not important and the above, and his family connections to the moon mission, might be about wanting to feel important and valued again. We all do need to feel valued and we gain that from TP but those we care for cannot access value in the same way.

Sending love and a hug

I would say it’s more neurological combination of the medication “ D “ taking, then the brain damage that is going on in the brain must play havoc ( SP ) in the brain paten of sleep time dreams .
