It depends on how far along your loved ones dementia is and how easy going they are. I let our dentist know beforehand when I took my husband. The dentist didn’t really seem to care. My husband is early stages and was fine. I used to take my husband once a year but now take him every 6 months because he no longer flosses and doesn’t brush his teeth as well.
My husband also developed bad breath because of poor dental hygiene. My husband does still brush his teeth. The dentist said he should start using an electric toothbrush with a round head. He said it would clean the teeth better. I found a simple one on Amazon for the equivalent of 12 pounds.
It had made all the difference. No more bad breath. At my husband’s next visit the dentist said his teeth were much cleaner.
