Surprise council invoice!!

Hi all

Just after some advice, my dad has Alzheimer’s and has been in a nursing home since 2022.
We filled in all the financial documents for the council and was told that he would have to contribute to his care and as such they sent an invoice every month for around £700. Which has been paid.
Today I received a 9 page invoice for £4850.00 showing around £65.00 per week from 2022.
As his power of attorney I have sent a mail asking what this invoice for.
I quite a panic as he doesn’t have the funds to pay this😞
Any information or help would be appreciated

How stressful Andrew!

council financial departments can be quite inept at times! I have known cases where invoices have been sent in error. Let’s hope this is the case.

You have done the right thing in querying it - await their explanation.

Perhaps also seek advice of the CAB if they don’t come back with a simple solution for you.

in the mean time - don’t pay anything!
