So, what’s my Pauline been up to today?

Wish my Mum would do this as it’s my job to do everything other than write her name, including all the notes to go inside! It’s like her funeral plan, includes church and crematorium service, with three full hymns. Because “that’s what your father had” !! He was a recently retired minister who still did lots of preaching, sick visits etc. My Mum is in a Home, near me, not her old home, and 94. Don’t know who she thinks is coming to this funeral !!!!!

such a shame about the plans for this weekend just fell apart and so upsetting. Firstly was yesterday (Saturday) we went to a Christmas Fair reportedly in a big old hotel nearby which, in a previous life as an orphanage had special memories for Pauline and so she was excited as we drove there. Unfortunately I had misread the advert and it turned out to be in a village hall bearing the same name as Orphanage had. We got soaked in a downpour and had some laughs while there but didnt buy anything. Today was to have been a similar excursion to Birkenhead Priory which had quite literally been her playground as a child and again special memories as she keeps telling me. Imagine the shock and task of explaining to her that, as a message informed this morning, it has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. A bit of a mood morning up to now but maybe a walk will help later, ah well.

Certainly not today while housebound due to storm and so no walk and she is not happy at all ?
Same here…. I used to have a cat that waited at the door for me to open, if it was wet, it would glare at me, turn round and walk off, it would be back 10 mins later and we would go through the whole process over and over again. And I definitely felt like it was my fault it was wet…. ?

Sitting watching recorded from last night “ I’m a celebrity “ in a castle 20. Miles away as the crow flies and she is asking why have they got snow (artificial) and we don’t? Although funny in so many ways her confusion and distress was so upsetting and almost wish I hadn’t explained where Gwrych castle is and told of when we caravanned in the grounds just 6 years ago.

My cats do that. And if they don't like the weather out the back, they will go to the front door and wait for me to open it, as if it might be better weather out front!

However, my lovely Nico (the black one) always comes down the road with me when I go to the Post Ofice every day. She waits in the garden of the end house and when I return, usually about 20 mins later, she will jump out and escort me home. Even if it's raining :)

After a bit of a torrid week one way or another her, GP contacted me after I had emailed the surgery and an appointment made for tomorrow With the practice nurse who doubles as Memory nurse practioner so am hopefully of at least an up to date evaluation. In spite of all we still keep laughing and doing our daily walking. She still manages to take me by surprise though as, when I was watching the news on Covid this morning she announced, “thats it, you can do all the shopping and everyone must wear masks in hear, especially our Jimmy (her eldest) as he is un jabbed! Forgetful but not soft as she would describe it.

After I got back from my hospital dermatology clinic, Pauline was very agitated and said she had a message and couldn’t read it and then shoved the TV remote into my hands asking me to get the message ?. Once I resolved the issue give her her due she did laugh but a touch nervously. Having been told that our GP surgery this afternoon was with Memory nurse the text message that upset her was a remider about seeing the ‘doctor.’ We’ll take what is offered I think ?

Well the practice nurse turned out to be one of the nicest GP’s Pauline has ever seen and new to the practice. He spoke so nice to her. ensured she was fully included in conversations and why he had to do the examinations he was to do. First off he confirmed anort UTI from sample I had put in that morning and then carefully explained why and how he was to do a Rectal examination with a nurse behind the curtain and not me! after that examination he advised us he was referring her for examination by specialist department at local Hospital and have since been texted informing us that we will be contacted by that department on Thursday at 2.50! Dont know whether to be worried or relived but either way I am so glad I emailed her GP practice.

So glad you've landed with a good nurse and things are being taken seriously.
I can imagine it is a worry, but it's best to find out what the problem is. Let's hope the hospital is as good at talking to Pauline and making her feel involved. I guess her nurses training kicks in a bit at such times.

That’s so good @Agzy. Such a relief for you to see Pauline being treated with dignity. It does indeed make a difference. I hope all goes well with the contact on Thursday.

Well, test results good news really but issue is her diet in that she has to go on 4 month course of Folic Acid as her food ‘likes’ have over time become, ‘dislikes.’ The only greens she eats now is a desert spoon of marrow fat peas twice a week and chances of that changing is nil; but I have convinced her that she needs to have salads and go back to eating pears which she once loved so a positive start ?.

After a Christmas Eve of visitors one after the other and all my family except her youngest son who left a Christmas carrier bag on the step after ringing the bell and apparently retreating halfway up the driveway. She answers the door and wanted him to come in and thankfully he refused as I would have walked out given he only visits 3 times a year and never stays more than 3/5 minutes but she has now made him her favourite next to her eldest who visits often and is helpful. The middle son never visited at all nor indeed phoned but plastered photos on FB of he and his wife along with thier two sons and grandchildren having a great time. So maddening and it does get her down to such a degree as to be her sole topic of conversation other than about TV.
