I too feared this would happen but if her son works then it was doomed to fail. I think it was a promise with good intent but impractical . Book the daycare and use the son as back up for another day is what I would do. With a bit of luck some weeks you'll get two days respite 🙂
He doesn’t work per se but is a very committed church warden.

@Agzy . The pessary releases small amounts of oestrogen for the whole time it's in with an option to insert another one if problem not completely resolved. NHS was useless diagnosing the problem despite GP & SPECIALIST being female. Went private and it was diagnosed in minutes. The private doctor said the pessary is available on NHS and suggested if another one was required, get it on the NHS and he would fit it if required. Hope this is of some help to you.
Will be mentioning it at next practice contact as it would make both our lives so much easier.

Another cold damp day yesterday morning but we chanced a visit to newly refurbished Aldi and have never seen her so confused and disoriented. Also listened to a 45 minute local radio interview with Caroline of our Tuesday group and, although the word dementia was mentioned numerous times as being the illness affecting half of the members, have her neither comment nor reacted to the word Although she recognised Carolines voice.
As a bit of a surprise I took her to the our local theatre after tea to watch a pre-booked (unbeknown to her) musical memory tour of the 50s and early 60s; 1955 to 1965 to be precise.
It was the ensemble, Lipstick on your Collar, and a fantastic night just watching the happy rapturous look on her face as she sang along at the top of her voice, hand jiving and tapping hands and feet. Nights like this are almost worth going through some of the manure waded through daily!

Wish we could have gone with you! Love our musical nights out with friends, sounds like a brilliant night😊

Sorry @Agzy but you'll have to keep on wading.
As for help at home, why not start with some help for you? Eg, a cleaner for an hour or two a week/fortnight. It's worth it to save you also doing the house, plus it's a way of getting Pauline used to someone else in the house. Just a thought.

What a brilliant day! Our morning was with our Tuesday Group where, while Pauline did some craft work with the others, the organiser took me aside for a private heart to heart which I certainly needed and which was much appreciated. Pauline got a little miffed at my absence but had got over it by lunch.
After lunch it was off to Musical minds, another monthly one we go to and where they had a great lady singer with everything from, ‘Summer Time,’ to ‘Lipstick on your collar,’ in her repertoire.
After our evening meal and given there was nothing for her on TV, we watched a recorded movie we have never seen before; ‘Hairspray,’ and wow, what fun.
The most amazing thing for Pauline was seeing John Travolta dressed up as her half sister! No joke, he/she was the absolute twin of her estranged half sister and it just fascinated her.
At some time tomorrow I have to raise the subject of Daycare on Thursday so I can let her son know if he is need or not. He knows my preference and I just hope I can I can persuade her to agree, expecting a major mood change.

So pleased you could enjoy a better day on Tuesday. It’s good the group organiser is looking out for you too, and I hope your chat has helped. Fingers crossed Thursday turns out well too, I always look out for any posts from you afterwards, hoping it’s gone ok.

I had an appointment with a Practice Nurse this morning and yes, Blood Pressure was an issue yet again. When she asked if anything in particular was stressful in my life to cause this of course I told of sole caring and seemingly impossibility of getting respite time via Daycare. Following a ‘chat’ with her and after I left I phoned Daycare and asked if ok to return with Pauline tomorrow, and yes it was.
Having asked that I asked about transferring to a Monday or Wednesday afternoons instead and again it was a yes. So, once home and a cuppa made I broke the news to her and at first she really was upset but then I suggested the alternative options and she immediately said, “I think I’d like a Monday.” From then on all was calm and back to normal so I messaged her son but have got no reply but the die is cast.
(I hope).

A day of contrasts and surprises and not a little trauma.Given the odour from her urine I suspected that the infection is still there although the antibiotics course has finished. So, at 8.30, having done a white wash and hung it out on the line I delivered yet another sample to the surgery then home via a big shop at Aldi.

Just before 10 o'clock and over a cuppa I chatted to her about going to the ‘Thursday Club,’ Daycare to say goodbye as swapping to Mondays and all seemed ok and then she started complaining of feeling unwell and hot. Notwithstanding that and as her temperature was normal and we’ve had this reaction before, I continued to talk about the afternoon as a done deal and of course - Meltdown! Just as she was getting into her stride the landline rang which she answered then said, “he’s here,” and handed me the phone. I heard a lady's voice talking about me having visited the surgery and mentioned she was from the, ‘ Frailty Team.’ As I have never heard of this team I was flummoxed and then she asked if she could come down and see us arriving in 20 minutes and I just agreed.

Well, what a lovely lady she turned out to be and I just didn’t catch her name and couldn’t read her badge. Apparently the practice nurse had raise concerns and so this was the response and so welcome. Within minutes Pauline was at ease and explaining our lives and talking about her sons and I too am involved talking about our relationship and the problems of being sole carer with my own health issues. During it Pauline and I just opened up, me about wanting respite time and her about not wanting to go.

The nurse was with us for about an hour and concluded at about the time when we usually leave for Daycare by guiding Pauline through the things she likes about the Daycare center and how she makes people happy and almost without knowing it we have our coats on and as we bid her goodbye we then drove off and Pauline went through the Daycare doors the happiest I have ever seen her. I will tell you how things went on later as I am getting her off to bed, then it is the golf highlights And wee malt for me.
