So we are in the process of selling mams home to pay for care. We have been told by the council that she will get to keep £13.500.00 from the sale however I keep reading about the £23.000 threshold can anyone shed any light on this.
House has sold for £65,000 and care home fee is £4225 per month.
Thanks.

Ask them for a detailed breakdown.

They may be talking long term where she would be left with the lower limit of £14250, that leaves £750 to be accounted for.

Thank you. She’s declining so quickly we may not get long term.

At £23,500 and above she would be self-funding. When savings go below that, the council start to pay some of the costs but will take her pension, etc. Once she gets down to about £14,500 the council pay all the costs.
