Little plus signs

Sorry if this has been asked and answered 100 times but ...

Can anyone tell me what it means when there is a little black plus sign (+) beside a name on the list of who is online?

Hi Jo, as far as I know, they indicate who are your friends. So if you see someone with a little + they will be on your friends list
