Hi everyone, my name is Paula and my father is 84 and has Alzheimer’s. I have just spent the weekend with him and my mother, who is 82 and his main carer, and now realise how bad his dementia is getting. How my mother copes on a day to day basis amazes me. I just wanted somewhere to off load how I am feeling and hear how other people manage.

Now that you know how bad things really are, can you help sort out some assistance for your mum so she's not coping on her own and gets proper time off? Maybe a sitter/befriender for your dad so she can go out and get some time to herself or a cleaner/gardener to help with the chores. I don't know what stage your father is at or what care he needs directly - have you had him assessed by social services?
