My dad is pretty much a loan career to my mum, who was diagnosed in lockdown with alzheimers. My dad is 80 years old and doing a fantastic job looking after her, but recently, mum has started putting food into her mouth, but then takes it out with her fingers. She has lost weight and hasn't much of an appetite. I suggested meal supplements, which she is drinking. The doctors suggested a dietitian, but I don't feel there understanding of alzheimers influenced there advice to my dad what to offer her. I have suggested my dad to join this forum to gain more help, as I feel the doctors are just ticking boxes

Hello @Debash and welcome to the forum

Rather than the dietitians, you might find more help from the SALT team - the Speech And Language Therapists who, despite their name, are actually the experts on the mechanics of eating and swallowing

Welcome from me too @Debash.

I agree that it would be a good idea to try to get a referral to SALT. I had involvement from a SALT team for my husband and I found them very helpful.
