Hi Jay

Yes I think once CHC funding is in place there is proper financial provision to cover the particular needs of an individual as you state.

I was referring to self-funders. We've paid out virtually the totality of the proceeds from the sale of the family home between 2003 to 2009, when my mother was deemed eligible just as the money was running out, so the NHS (not LA) have been funding under CHC rules.

In August 2013 they decided she's ineligible for CHC again. The DST is the best work of fiction since Shakespeare passed away. To read it you'd think my mother was a spritely lady, going to book clubs (sic), watching TV (sic) and generally having a good quality of life. The reality she's totally immobile, bent up with contractures, doesn't know me or anyone, doubly incontinent, has all sorts of medication and nursing needs and is very frail. She's had AD since 1998, and formally diagnosed by a NHS specialist over 10 years ago.

Apart from now having to pay even more (basically her pension accumulated since 2009 - I wonder how they worked that out!!!), it's galling to be told that without self-funders, the CH couldn't operate on the reduced fees the NHS and LA both negotiate. I'm not suggesting that is always the case, but a CH manager told us this quite candidly. Of course, it could never be proved if challenged.

Indeed, there's not much else in life where one was invoiced an amount of £5565 per month, with no breakdown of cost whatsoever. CH operate behind a financial smokescreen, in collusion with CCGs and LAs in my opinion, but we have little choice, hence the lack of transparency.

Still trying to get CHC funding for my father (LRM 30th Dec) but as his health has deteriorated asked for another assessment. Had the checklist assessment & they have rejected a full assessment! The assessor says she had a sensible conversation with my dad which is impossible. She ignored my comments & only listened top the assistant care manager who says he is fine! Dad's money had now run out so we are waiting on hearing if & when the Council will take over payment of his fees.
