Dear fellow members,

I just wanted to share my father’s experience of Butrans patch . My father has Alzheimer’s for 5 years now . He has been muddled with words but always knew his family .
Unfortunately he has rheumatoid arthritis in his spine which up until recent did not stop him going out for a twenty minute walk with someone (with a couple of stops in between) . When In pain it affected his ability to walk which he loves and this made him feel sad.

It was suggested as the pain was pretty bad to start Butrans patch 5mcg , it was started with good effect , the pain crept back and the patch was increased to 10mcg , again tolerated for next few days . Then it seemed all of a sudden that Dad did not make sense talking, he did not know who I was and became agitated with glazed eyes , would not eat .I had an idea it was the patch .

After a review with GP it was reduced to 5mcg again, his speech, mood and recognition of his family improved to his normal again .
I thought I would share this experience as my dad is quite a strong man and I was surprised the effect this had on him .
He also uses a TENS machine reviewed by pain specialist .

Keep positive for your relative, keep positive for you .
