Hi there,
I care for my grandad who is suffering with dementia.

I care for him every Thursday so my nan is able to do her shopping as she doesn't currently get any other support.

When she leaves to catch the bus grandad starts asking about 2 Val's (nans name is Valerie) when I mention that she's just popped out for shopping he replies with "no I'm not talking about that Val, I'm talking about the older one"

Does anyone have the same situation or an idea?

I can only imagine that the "old" Val is him remembering my nan before he became ill and the "2nd" Val is my nan that he knows today.

Hello, I’m afraid it’s a common problem, my FIL thinks there are two of his son, even with the same name, he will ask often where they are. He also thinks a doctor lives with us ?? Try to go along with it, sometimes just saying that you don’t know is enough, or say oh I’ll ask Val when she gets back from the shops. Good luck

This link will take you to a site which will explain Capgras Syndrome, which is what this is
https://www.telmenow.com/2016/11/capgras-syndrome-in-dementia-advice/

BTW, @Jufinda, welcome to the forum, which I hope you find to be a friendly and supportive place.

You may find the Society Publication List to be of interest as it covers just about every aspect of dementia. You can find that with this link https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-support/publications-factsheets-full-list

If you want to check for support services in your area you can do a post code check by following this link https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/find-support-near-you

Now that you have found us I hope you keep posting.
