My 95 year old mum recently fell and broke her hip.
She was operated on successfully and spent 4 weeks in hospital. While there she became very confused so they did a brain scan and told me she has vascular dementia but did not tell me to what extent this is. I looked at her notes when she was discharged and see she has been diagnosed with mixed dementia.
What is this? She is now totally confused although remembers family members and recognises me and my dad. She doesn't seem to realise she is at home although she has lived there for 9 years.
She is having carers in at the moment to get her up in the morning and ready for bed at night although she seems to be capable of doing this herself.
She refused to get up today until I went up there. She told me she feels rotten but couldn't say how. She also told me she is losing her teeth although this was happening for a while before she only just seems to have noticed.
I suppose I really want to know what can me and my dad expect in the future.
