my mum’s Alzheimer’s is progressing and is currently be cared for by my 85 year of dad
As the symptoms are getting worse I feel I don’t know how to deal with it
Dad does his best but I know I need to be there more now which is fine but I feel inadequately short of knowledge
Any pointers would be appreciated x

Hullo and welcome to Talking Point, Roxyandbella. You will find plenty of good advice and support here.
The first place to look for a few pointers on the disease would be https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/about-dementia/types-dementia/alzheimers-disease. My partner has vascular dementia and everyone progresses differently, so can't give you any more insight than you will get there.
One place which is common to us all is your local Social Services who can give a care needs assessment for your mum and carers assessment for you or for your dad. They can set up respite or day centres if that is needed, and my experience is that both can improve life for everyone.

Hello and welcome from me too @Roxyandbella.

Just to add a little, I wonder if your family may find and local support services like a memory café to be of some use. You can do a post code check to see what's available to you by following this link https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/find-support-near-you

The full list of the very informative Factsheets can be found with this link https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-support/publications-factsheets-full-list

If communicating with you mum becomes an issue for either you or your dad, a few handy tips can be picked from the useful thread that can be reached with this link https://forum.alzheimers.org.uk/threads/compassionate-communication-with-the-memory-impaired.30801/

Now that you have found us I do hope you continue to post as this is very much a mutual support forum. I find being able to share my experiences here is very useful indeed.
