The younger child on the left of the attached photo is now 85 and has had little if no memory of the last 10 years. Her older sister now 90 is very active and independent, enjoying a fit and healthy life. The younger child is my mum. Are researchers doing research into siblings and analysing why one child may go on to have Alzheimer's whilst another doesn't ?

MIL is the younger sister, 84 with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's of at least 10 years duration. Her elder sister is 86 and very fit. Both have long-standing heart conditions but the elder sister has had no vascular brain damage. It must be so hard for her to see her little sister become a confused little old lady while she herself could be mistaken for someone 20 years younger and still leads a very active life.
MIL ate a very healthy diet and kept fit and active, going for walks every day, doing crosswords etc. which is all recommended for long-term physical and mental health. It just isn't fair. She's just been unlucky in the dementia lottery.
