Seeking A Private Assessment

Hi all

I am seeking a private assessment as the waiting times for the NHS appointments are way too long as I am living alone with no outside support.

I'm really asking who is the best kind of person to do these tests. I paid a private Clinical Psychologist back in the 90s who carried out an in-depth assessment that took around 2 hours to complete. The memory test I had in hospital following my time in a coma after a cardiac arrest only took maybe 10 minutes and I don't think that can be very thorough

Hi,

We went private with my mum for the same reason and because we were fortunate to be able to afford to do so. In our case, we checked which private hospitals offered memory clinic services. We ended up at a clinic lead by a consultant who specialises in geriatric medicine (mum is 73 with no significant medicsl history). She was very thorough and covered all ground with us. There were also clinics leas by neurologists and psychiatrists. It sounds like you have medical history so maybe your gp could suggest the best type of clinician to contact?

We did need to being a referral letter from the gp. Mum had been referrered on NHS but gp said lots were going private to get their diagnosis, so unfortunately it sounds common these days.

Good luck and I hope you manage to get an appointment soon.
