Repetition

My husband has early onset dementia. It seems to be in debate whether it is Alzheimer’s or FTD. He seems to have a lot of energy which I can cope with, but he has asphasia and repeats the same phrases over and over which is torture. His consultant is changing antidepressants in the hope this calms him but the GP says this will make no difference to repetition. Has anyone gone through this and is there any medication that helps that we can suggest to the doctors.

Hello @Raest Unfortunately I think that the GP is probably right in that changing meds is unlikely to have any effect on the repetition. Because of short term memory issues the person with dementia forgets that they have said something or asked a question and so they repeat themselves over and over again. You have my sympathy, it really is a difficult aspect of dementia.
