Please could someone explain what anti-psychotic medication does?

znz and chemmy, those are my sentiments also. To live with the forgetfulness and repetative behaviours and words of someone with dementia is tiring and draining, but bearable. When it gets to the level of verbal and physical violence and paranoia it's no longer bearable. That was the point I was making about the different antipsychotics. Being given carefully monitored amounts, which ease all of those aggressive, paranoid delusional behaviours is better for our cared fors aswell as us carers and families. I'm just hoping it's enough for my OH to be home for sometime,as hate to leave him in fulltime care. This terrible illness......
