Hi all my mum has just been diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's . Can anyone tell me the difference between this and dementia ? Many thanks

Dementia is the umbrella term. Alzheimer's is one kind of dementia. Let me find the fact sheet for you. And welcome to TP!

Hello from afar
I liken the word dementia to the word cancer.

Unfortunately Mum has both.

Dementia - the type is Alzheimers
Cancer - the type is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Thank you for all your kind replies. I suppose I feel like I am grieving for her if you know what I mean. I feel desperately sorry for my dad who has to live with it day in and day out.
