Hello,

My dad has been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer. He is 84.
So far I read the Alzheimer booklet provided by Alzheimer Society and some more stuff from websites and you tube.

I have been reading and sharing it with friends in order to get more understanding.
I am now looking for alternatives and ways to support him and also my mum who is currently his carer but unlikely to continue in the following months.

As I don't live with them, I am exploring ways and as you might guess, this is all new for us as a family but we are willing to embrace this challenge.

I would appreciate any advice and positive vibes.

Hello Lemanata
My 86 year old mother is now in a care home but previously lived about 2 hours away from me. I found the local branch of the Alzheimers Society were a godsend they supported her and kept in touch with me, provided practical help e.g. taking her to appointments etc. Have a look for a branch near to your parents they will help your mother with practical advice and support with your dad. My mother also had a social worker and she was given carers to help out when she lived at home.
Hope all goes well for you.
Jan xx
