medications for Alzheimer's-related sleep disturbances?

My mum is 76 and her GP prescribed an ant-histamine to make her drowsy ,it hasn't worked.We have kept her awake all day and that hasn't help either.Any advice please x

Welcome to the forum @SuzanB you'll find lots of friendly support and advice here. This is a very old thread but it is generally a case of 'trial and error' in terms of finding the best medication/dosage for those with dementia, plus existing medication/health issues need to be taken into consideration. What may work well for one person may not for another, so it is best to seek advice from the GP, who could also refer your mum to the older adults mental health team so that they can review your mum's medication. Not sleeping at night can be quite a common problem but hopefully the GP will be able to try something else that might help.
