Hi, my mum was diagnosed with early onset dementia 2 years ago. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good counselling services I could speak to (that are cheap and in London) that might understand the situation more. I tried my uni counselling service and she meant well but was really awful.

Thanks!

I was referred for free counselling by my GP. The person specialised in counselling for carers, had cared for his father himself and met me at the Carers Centre for our sessions. He was great. This is in Tower Hamlets - I have no idea what other boroughs offer but it might not hurt to ask your GP.

Hello, @Jazz_277, do try the help line, and you could also try Admiral Nurses...an organisation that supports carers and relatives of people with dementia. https://www.dementiauk.org/get-support/admiral-nursing/
I was offered counselling (initially a free course of ten sessions) through Age U.K. , who were running a pilot scheme in conjunction with Macmillan Nurses, so it might be worth mentioning that on the help line, or to Admiral Nurses, if you speak to them.
It’s a very heavy burden to bear, especially when you are under so much pressure at uni, am doing it is a specialist area, so you are being really sensible and proactive in getting support for yourself. A lot of members have found that sharing thoughts, fears and feelings on this forum helps. It is not a substitute for counselling, but it does help, to be able to ask questions or share things with other people who know exactly how you feel, or who might have experienced the same thing.
Please do continue to use the forum, you will find the members are really helpful and friendly.

Ah thank you everyone. Will try my GP (was worried about the same thing r.e not understanding and have to re-explain over and over but if you had success worth a shot) and if the waiting list is very long, might try admiral nurses and the helpline- I had no idea these existed.

Thanks again!
