Living abroad with Dementia

Hi, my mum retired to an eu country some years ago. She has had dementia about 5 or so years and is steadily declining now. My dad has booked a weeks respite for her there but they have told him not to visit! Surely this will unsettle her even more? It doesn’t seem to be the best advice? Any thoughts?

Thats usually what is advised here too.
Your dad needs the respite so that he can have a rest and a complete break from worry and he wont get that f he is constantly visiting..
Your mum will be well looked after and although she will probably be a bit unsettled for a day or two once she gets back, your dad needs this time.

That's exactly what respite is for - a total break without visiting, so it's the correct advice. :) Though it's only advice - they can't forbid him to visit.
