My 87 yr old Mum (PWD) had her key safe fitted today. I am absolutely disgusted.

It is hooked over the handle right outside the front door. They may as well have attached a big red sign outside saying vulnerable adult lives here.

Apparently Dad was told, if you want one that fixes to the wall, you have to pay!

I think we paid something like £80 to fit one on the wall, the only one that was Police approved they told us, when we got a Council pendant alarm set up. So, that may be common.
As for the position your mum's is fitted, that does lack a bit of common sense, Stockport.

As nae sporran says there is only one police approved keysafe
https://keysafe.co.uk/c500-keysafe.html
Retail £59.94 inc vat, you can find it discounted if you search around a bit, if you employ somebody to fit it you should be able to get a VAT exemption.

However several LAs can put you in touch with a 'trusted tradesman', either part of an organisation or independent, who will install it for free - no Vat exemption.

Other keysafes can be bypassed in seconds/minutes.

The one in the image is very cheap https://www.amazon.co.uk/Frostfire-Mooncode-1555-Portable-Security/dp/B0011U1U8E

Fitting it in such an obvious position is inexcusable.

Yes, that's the one we had for mum's house. Cost about £100 including installation by specialist guy; you have to be licensed to fit these and we also arranged this via the local Careline/emergency pendant service. Worth every penny - my mum lived alone with no relatives closer than 50 miles. Without it the carer would not have been able to get in to help her when she fell, couldn't get up, couldn't or wouldn't press the alarm button on her wrist. Paramedics would have had to break the door down.

This is one situation where the cheapest is not the best value option.

I couldn't agree more:). I will be telling the council this when they call me today. I am still livid.
