Hello everyone,My great nan died nearly 17 years ago after suffering with dementia, When I was growing up I always remember my nan doing everything she could to keep her at home, but unfortunatley after she had been found at home having turned on the gas cooker and left it un lit it was decided that she needed to go into a care home, after 2 years of being in care she died.
As I got older and had a series of jobs and my 2 girls I decided to apply for a job as a home care assistant, I got the job and was there for 2and a half years I miss my job very much and have some great memories most of them from people with dementia but I now have my beautiful little boy to look after, I am hoping to return to this work when he is older.
I do feel though that community care company's do not do enough to provide continuty of care for people with dementia, and i think that this is very much needed community care companys should have a specialist team within the company to care for people with dementia. It is something that had I stayed my boss and I had talked about setting up and I really wish I had but circumstances meant Icouldn't:(
Hopefully one day care company's will realise that this is needed and it will help your loved ones.

Sam:)

continuity of care

Hi Jaysmum.Continuity of care can only be decided by the nhs, when someone is defined as needing nursing care.Private sector companies may not give this information for their own gain. Are you paying full cost?if your parent is social service funded then there needs to be a full needs assesment document re-doing
