Hello everyone,I am really struggling to research the right place for my Mom to be placed in care ,as she has quite aggressive behaviour ,she is immobile in the latter stages of vascular dementia ,her cognitive abilities are dwindling away ,and she is at the moment in the limbo land of an assessment ward at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham.

Does anyone have any contacts or information ,on the available 24.hr specialist dementia care homes that would accept someone with challenging behaviour and some aggression, confusion, fear etc ,,.for the Birmingham area.

Also ,I could do with just talking through all the problems this entails with like minded peoplein a similar situation.

Hi Paulman 5,

You will need to discuss this with the social worker who should be able to provide you with a list, or the CPN.

My mum became aggressive (sadly passed away 2 weeks ago), but 15 months ago we moved her to nursing / challenging behaviour home as she was kicked out of residential dementia home. I have to say the care was brilliant as more feet on the ground and were highly trained.

We preferred to do own homework and went to see several homes and made a list of questions. Do not go for somewhere "posh" as they usually spend more on the decor than staff (in my opinion). The home we found for mum was basic but very clean and the staff were so loving. Activities were plentiful.

Sadly although in the Midlands area I do not know Birmingham so unable to offer advice there.

Google first and make a list, go unannounced, look around, ask other visitors etc.

Sorry I cannot help you more.
