Morning everyone, new to this forum and hoping someone in a similar situation can help.
Mum is currently in a care home funding herself by deferring her payments through the local authority.
Could I or should I have applied for NHS continued care for her? This was never mentioned as an option by the social worker involved in her case at the time when she could no longer cope at home and now she is in a care home they are no longer involved.

There is not an application form for CHC, there is an initial checklist which may lead to the use of the decision support tool (DST), it can also lead to funded nursing care (FNC) or no requirement.

You could try filling in a >>>checklist<<< to see whether you think it's worth formally asking for one to be performed.

The bar is set incredibly high and if there are other no medical things going on apart from dementia then unless the behaviour is so extreme that most care homes (not just the bad ones) cant deal with it then they are unlikely to be eligible. Mum died from Alzheimers in her care home without ever being eligible.
Just a warning what you are up against.
