Haloperidol question?

Hello ,

I'm aware Haloperidol is an anti-psychotic drug but would 500 micro grams given to an 83 year old Alzheimer's patient be classed as a sedative or would the side effects be of a sedative nature? Would these side effects be expected in such a patient?

Hi and Welcome to TP,

I know Haloperidol is contraindicated for use with dementia patients, but my husband was fine on it, but it was prescribed And well monitored by a Psychiatrist, if you have doubts about the use of this drug I suggest that you talk to the prescribing Doctor.
