Friends on TP

I have received a friend request and I am happy about that. But I don't know what advantage, or disadvantage this might be to me or the requester. I can find very little about being TP friends with anybody. I think I may have agreed to the friend request, but I am not sure.
I am happy to be friends with most people.

TP has the capacity to set certain functions (e.g. Blogs and Albums) as private. That way only your friends, contacts, the moderators and administrators will be able to see it. So, of you accept someone as a friend they will be able to view anything that you set as private, and you will be able to view theirs. If you add them as a contact you are giving them permission to view anything you set to private, but unless they add you as a contact or friend you won't be able to view theirs.
