Forget Me Not appeal: collecting in your local community

Alzheimer's Society will be collecting in over 450 Morrisons stores across Scotland, Wales and England during Dementia Action Week (15 – 21 May). There will also be collections in Belfast, Birmingham, Chelmsford and Leeds throughout this month.

By giving a couple of hours to collect at your local supermarket, station or town centre, you can make a big difference and help even more people living with dementia receive the support they need.

These collections are particularly important for getting to know people in your local communities, and letting people know who we are and that we're here to support people living with dementia.

I was so pleased yesterday when we went into our local Topps Tiles branch to try to choose new wall tiles for our kitchen project underway - there was a 'Forget me not' collection tray with badges/pins and a little poster and collection box - all very prominently displayed. The guys too seemed very proud of it all.
All very uplifting.

I would be happy to volunteer for other supermarkets we have in our area which are nearer to me. It seems like this appeal is only about Morrisons stores.

Received our instructions and t shirts today for the forthcoming 'Forget me not appeal' in our local Morrisons store, as part of Dementia Action week 2024. Looking forward to getting involved in our local community, and spreading the word!

Got my rather large tee shirt and flower so off collecting tomorrow afternoon. The society was about the only help I got when looking after mum so it’s time to help them! Not sure how I will feel after three hours as still have that “carer” tiredness!!

Hope it went well @Starting on a journey. Off tomorrow afternoon to do the same in our local Morrisons. Pleased to be able to involve our local community in fundraising for the Society as well.

It was ok!!! I took 36 donations ( I count a lot) and could tell by the coins going in that lots were £1 or more. A young man gave me a fiver!!! I found men of all ages but especially under 40 stopping and giving . I spoke to a lady whose relative was struggling pre diagnosis and I gave her a leaflet to give him. She remarked that he felt guilty and I said it was common and he needed a big stick to bat it away!!

So hopefully I raised some money, would do again but advice is make sure you are warm as supermarkets get cold!!

We did our collecting for the 'forget me not appeal' yesterday afternoon. It went very well. I lost count of the number of people that gave a donation (normally I'm very good with numbers!!) and some people were really generous. £10 and £5 notes at times. And people of all ages, young and old. Very uplifting (but at the same time , very tiring) but a great experience and will certainly do it again next year. Some people too wanted to share their personal experience with family members with dementia.
The fact that there were two of us also meant that we could be visible both at the entrance and exit of the supermarket. No rattling of collection boxes though - not allowed!!
And we got thanks from some people for 'doing what we were doing' which was nice.
I had a supply of Dementia Support Forum leaflets with me, so I left some on the display table as we left.
Yes, you are right @Starting on a journey , the through draught as entrance and exit doors opened and closed made it a very chilly time. Following your advice, we were layered up!
