How do you respond to the person with dementia when they are convinced that something has happened i.e. They've lost something and it's been misplaced and it is a fixed belief

Hello @123Sarah Once a person with dementia has an idea that something has happened, it is hard to convince them otherwise.
So, if they are saying that they have lost something, don’t argue with them, say that you will try to find it, and then try to distract them, perhaps with a cup of tea and a biscuit or if they can, a short walk.
Sometimes people with dementia are convinced that there are people in the house who should not be there. Reassure them that you will get rid of the intruder and again try distracting them.
The more that you argue with the person that they are wrong more agitated they will become, so it is best not to. It’s not easy and the distraction techniques do not always work.,
