Nebiroth is correct - you can inform the "powers that be" that there are valid reasons for not informing the dementia-sufferer, because it would cause distress. That applies to many authorities, such as the Pension Service and similar. They all will understand. They may require a statement from a doctor or social worker or whoever, but it is always possible to explain that distress would be caused by 'discussing, talking, requiring a signature on a form' and so on.
The original post referred to £600 per annum fees - which are required possibly for a Court Appointed Deputy, but not for the normal run-of-the-mill EPA/LPA registration.
We are always advised to get 3 quotations from a builder/roofer/double glazing salesperson, so why not ask the same of 3 different solicitors. Yes, more effort, but always worth a phone call.
