I am sure this is not a new topic but any ideas would be gratefully recieved.
My Mum never knows what day it is. We have a diary and everything is written in there and a daily paper delivered. I find her waiting for people to call or putting bins out on the wrong day....Someone suggested to her to cross the days off in the diary which of course made things worse as she would cross out several days over the course of one day !
Help please ?!

Hello and welcome to TP.

You don't say whether she lives alone or you are there with her. From the waiting for someone I will take it she is alone in which case it is difficult to help her other than a daily phone call in the morning to tell her the date and making sure she is on the right day of the diary.

There are clocks available that have day and month on as well as time. There seem to be mixed opinions of them on here as to how useful they have been.

My husband had problems with dates too so I made up my own calendar. I used a clipboard that my husband was used to in his working life. I wrote out the , dates, days and months and year and each morning brought to the front of the clipboard the date, day, month and year and the board was kept at the side of his chair. It did not stop him asking but I just told him to take a look at the clipboard. It worked for us but of course I was with him to tell him to look at the clipboard, if he had been on his own it would have been a waste of time.

Hopefully you will find you get some good ideas from others,

Take care,

Jay

Hi Janeseggy,

I have the same problem with my mum who lives alone.

The clocks which display the day but these are too small for my mum to see.

I find, as jaymor suggests, that the most reliable way is to phone ( usually several times a day) to remind her what day it is and what is happening.

Mum also listens to the radio quite a lot and will sometimes pick up from that what day it is.

I am sure someone cleverer than me will post a link to the clocks, they might suit your mum.

Unless there is a third party to constantly remind the time, day and year then even with a specialised clock little improvement will happen. The Dayclox is bright and clear but you still have to prompt the person to look at it and remind them frequently throughout the day. Sorry but no easy solution.

I was thinking of getting my Dad one of these but cannot guarantee he'll look at it.

(I cannot post a link as my post count hasn't reached 10 yet but if you go on Amazon and search for "Digital Calendar Clock i8.1)

We have about 2 or 3 calendars around the house but Mum reminds him of the date by getting him to look at the front of the newspaper whenever he enquires.
