Do I have to repay pension overpayment?

I have just had a letter asking me to repay a weeks pension that the state paid after Mum had died.

The way the letter reads is says ‘ as it is public funds, we have a duty to ask for this to be repaid’. This makes it sound almost voluntary ?

I have the funds to pay it, but part of me wants to stick two fingers up, as Mum paid for all her own care for three years.

Anyone have any experience of whether you are chased for this, or do they just drop it……

Yes you should pay is the short answer. I had to do this when settling the affairs of my brother in law and then my husband. They would be unlikely to go to court over it but it is a good and respectable thing to clear all debts and move on.
