Diazepam for agitation

Hi My OH has recently been prescribed diazepam for agitation despite me telling the memory team that he has sleep apnea which according to the information leaflet he should not be given this medication. However it has made him really drowsy all the time but has also messed his sleeping up, he is struggling to sleep now and has almost fallen twice due to nodding off on his feet as he stands most of the time. I really don't like him on this medication so have decided to wean him off it. He has only been taking it a couple of weeks but it has already taken a hold of him and therefore I have to wean him off it gradually. Day one I have only given half a 2mg tablet and it seems to be better than with the full tablet, fingers crossed. Any advice would be welcome.

Please do let the GP and memory team know what you are doing so that they know about your concerns and exactly how much your OH is taking ... it's important they have an up to date picture of his situation and meds
