care home fees

hi. i wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation or knows what i should do.
my mam passed away in december and had been living in a care home for a while. last week i was sent a bill for £996 for her care home and for the care she had at home back in 2010.
is it my responsibility to pay that, do i have to pay it?
can anyone offer me any advice, ive been googling to try to find out but it keeps taking me to american sites.

Have you signed any contracts to pay for care for your mother? if so, you would be liable.

If your mother left any money, then that would be needed to pay for the care.

If she left any money to you, I believe her bills would have to be settled before you inherit.

Have you asked the LA for a breakdown of the fees? I mean, exactly what they are for? I would suggest you also visit CAB particularly to ask about that 2010 charge - this seems rather a long time for a debt to be hanging.
